Frequently Asked Questions about the Nevada County Fairgrounds Foundation
What is the Foundation current fundraising project?
In 2009, the Nevada County Fairgrounds, using Foundation contributions, Fairgrounds reserves, and a loan from Citizens Bank of Northern California, built the beautiful Whitney Pavilion. This facility was built to house livestock, as well as to provide a new home for the Magonigal show and sale ring used for the Junior Livestock Auction. Our focus is to continue to raise funds to pay off the loan for this facility and to prepare for other Capital Improvement projects on the Fairgrounds.
When was the Foundation created?
The Nevada County Fairgrounds Foundation, Inc. was created in 2005, and our mission is “building a better Nevada County Fairgrounds through fundraising and contributions to the Fairgrounds.” Our fundraising efforts are focused on supporting and improving the health and beauty of the Fairgrounds, enhancing the community’s use of the Fairgrounds, and fostering projects that develop our local youth in agriculture.
Why is the Foundation necessary?
The Nevada County Fairgrounds, formally known as the 17th District Agricultural Association, is a state agency and receives a small funding allocation from the State of California. A majority of the Fairgrounds’ revenue is generated through activities on the Fairgrounds, including the annual Fair, the Draft Horse Classic, the Country Christmas Faire, camping facilities and the more than 200 other activities that happen throughout the year on the grounds. As impressive as this may sound, the fact is that dramatic increases in expenses make balancing the budget a challenge, and leaves little remaining funds for major maintenance and capital improvement so essential to the ongoing health and beauty of the Fairgrounds.
Are my donations tax deductible?
Yes. The Nevada County Fairgrounds Foundation, Inc. is a California Public Benefit Corporation, organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
How do I support the Foundation and its goals?
There are several ways to become involved in the Foundation.
