The 22nd Annual Draft Horse Classic and Harvest Fair at the Nevada County Fairgrounds starts Thursday, September 18, and runs through Sunday, September 21. This premier event will once again feature the draft horse performances that have been drawing crowds for 21 years.

This year, during the four day schedule, draft horse owners and their teams will compete for $37,000 in prize money. In addition to the spectacular performances by the Gentle Giants, there will be art, events, and entertainment for all to enjoy throughout the Fairgrounds. Art at the Classic, the horse and western art show; the Harvest Fair, which displays locally grown fruits and vegetables as well as crafts; western music and entertainment are just a few of the venues that attendees have come to enjoy at this event. As always, Treat Street will be open to serve the fabulous foods that give the street its name.

The four-day Draft Horse Classic and Harvest Fair will feature six performances by draft horses displaying their strength and precision in the show ring. Although there is a charge for the performances in the arena, admission to the Fairgrounds is free, allowing visitors to stroll the grounds, pick up a western item or two from vendors, listen to the various entertainment acts, enjoy the world-class western art exhibit, and savor a treat from Treat Street.

Enjoy fine food and drink on Saturday, September 20, at “A Taste of Gold Country,” which spotlights specialties from local restaurants and area wineries.

The Sierra Trail Blazers 5k/10k Fun Run takes off early Sunday morning, returning to the Fairgrounds in time to see the Gentle Giants step out for their morning performance.

The Draft Horse Classic has grown to become the premier draft horse show in the western United States. The big horse event features Clydesdales, Belgians, Percherons, Shires, Suffolks, and American Cream breeds performing for enthusiastic audiences.

Advanced tickets for reserved seating are $21 a person ($24 day of the event). General admission seats are first come, first seated, and are $18 in advance ($21 day of the event). RV camping is also available.
